MEREDITH VIEIRA Meredith Vieira is a broadcast journalist and daughter of the beloved late Dr. Edwin Vieira, a physician who served the Portuguese American community in Rhode Island for decades. Presently, she is the co-host for ABC's "The View." Ms. Vieira joined ABC in 1993 and became chief correspondent for "Turning Point." Previously, Ms. Vieira spent more than a decade at CBS News as a correspondent for broadcasts ranging from "60 Minutes" to "West 57th," and most recently as a co-anchor for "CBS Morning News." In June 1991, she was a contributing correspondent for the CBS News prime-time series "Verdict," reporting from actual courtroom trials. Ms. Vieira is a recipient of various awards, including an Emmy for the "60 Minutes" report: "Thy Brother's Keeper," a story on Christians who saved Jews during the Holocaust. She also won four other Emmys for stories broadcasted on "West 57th." Prior to joining CBS, Ms. Vieira was a reporter for WCBS-TV in New York City for three years and a reporter and anchor for our own WJAR, Channel 10 in Providence. She began her career as a news announcer for WORC radio in Worcester, MA, in 1975. Meredith Vieira is a native of East Providence, RI, and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from Tufts University in Medford, MA.
