PRESIDENT SUSAN ANTONIO PACHECO, ESQUIRE

SUSAN ANTONIO PACHECO, founding member of the Portuguese American Women’s Association, in 1990, in her term as President since 1992, has initiated and directed conferences and cultural activities for PAWA in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, developed international exchange programs, hosted several dignitaries and celebrities including the First Lady of Portugal, and provided capable and inspiring leadership to this national organization of more than 200 members.

Attorney Pacheco is also a founding member and current board member of the Portuguese American Scholarship Foundation, which awards annually thousands of dollars in scholarships to area students of Portuguese descent. She co-authored A Brief History of Portugal, written for the Bicentennial in 1976.

Attorney Pacheco is a member of many area civic, cultural, and religious organizations, including Casados Acores da Nova Inglaterra, the Portuguese American Federation, and Our Lady of Fatima Church in Cumberland, Rhode Island. She also was a loyal sponsor and fan of local youth sporting and school events.

Attorney Pacheco received her B. A. at Brown University and M. Ed. at Rhode Island College, and completed a successful career as a classroom teacher and a bilingual educator before pursuing her Doctorate of Jurisprudence at Boston College. Attorney Pacheco is a sole practitioner, focusing on family law, probate issues and personal injury matters. She is fluent in Portuguese and Spanish, and has two children, David and Cristina Antonio Pacheco, MD.

SUSAN ANTONIA PACHECO was born in Central Falls, Rhode Island, descended from mainland Portugal.
