SECRETARY ADELINA AXELROD Adelina
Azevedo Axelrod's community involvement began with the Portuguese American
Women's Association at its inception. She serves on the Executive Board
of PAWA, responsible for membership and communications. Ms. Axelrod has been a voracious reader since her earliest memories, she had blind faith that words would transport her to places that she had never seen or imagined. With her deep rooted love of reading and writing she was awarded a place to learn, read and write at a small liberal arts college in New Hampshire. After graduation, Ms. Axelrod was vaulted to San Francisco and began her career in the nascent computer industry. After a while, her roots beckoned, she returned to her first loves: literature, writing, and the East Coast. She has come full circle and is in her 19th year as a librarian at an advanced research institution with holdings in the literature of European exploration and travel in the Western Hemisphere. Other community organizations which Ms. Axelrod serves on executive boards are: The Jewish Family Service and Aristides de Sousa Mendes Society. She continues to tell her stories in prose in various published media: newspapers, newsletters and poetry magazines. Ms. Axelrod was born on the island of Faial in the Azores, and has one child, Caroline. |
